Activate

Background

By default, licenses activated through Steinberg Activation Manager are only activated on the local user's account and are not automatically shared with other local accounts.

Steinberg Activation Manager provides an "All Users Mode," which allows licenses to be activated or deactivated across all local user accounts. This simplifies license management for organizations needing to share licenses among multiple users on a single computer.

Preconditions

Before enabling “All Users Mode,” ensure the following:

  • The licenses you intend to activate are available in the Steinberg ID account you are using
  • You are logged into your computer using an account with administrator privileges
  • Steinberg Activation Manager (version 1.6.0 or later) is installed, and you are signed in to your Steinberg ID.

Enabling "All Users" mode

  • Click the menu icon to open the menu
  • While holding the SHIFT key, click the Settings menu item
  • Locate the All Users Mode section and toggle the switch to enable it.
  • Click Close to return to the main screen
  • On Windows, you may be prompted to allow the "Steinberg Install Helper.exe" to make changes to your computer. Click "Yes" to allow changes.

  • The main screen will indicate that "All Users" mode is active. Activate the required licenses. Buttons to conveniently activate or deactivate all available licenses are provided.
  • Your licenses will now be activated for all local users of that computer.

Note

If other local users sign in with their own Steinberg ID, their personal licenses will take precedence, and the licenses activated in All Users Mode will not be used.

Disabling "All Users" mode

If you wish to disable All Users Mode, follow these steps:

  • Open the menu and click Settings.
  • Locate the All Users Mode toggle switch and disable it.

Important note

Disabling All Users mode will not affect any licences that have already been activated - these will still be available to all local users. If you wish to deactivate these licenses for all local user, do so before disabling All Users mode.

Any new activations you perform after disabling All Users Mode will only apply to the currently logged-in user. This allows flexibility to manage licenses based on specific account needs.

Troubleshooting

Issue: “All Users Mode” toggle is not visible

Solution:

Hold down the Shift key while opening the Settings menu.

Issue: Unable to activate licenses for all users

Solution:

  • Verify that you have administrative privileges.
  • Ensure Steinberg Activation Manager is updated to version 1.6.0 or later.
