Display Tab (Global Preferences)
The Display tab allows you to make changes to the user interface, which affect the entire application.

To open the Display tab of the Global Preferences, select , and click Display.
Theme
Allows you to choose a color scheme for the user interface:

Dark sets the user interface to a dark color scheme.

Light sets the user interface to a light color scheme.
Workspace
- Display Active File Path in Title Bar
-
Displays the file path of the active file in the title bar of the workspace.
- When Closing the Active Tab
-
Determines the behavior of the program after closing the active tab. You can choose to activate the most recently activated tab again (Activate the Previously Active Tab), the tab to the left of the currently active tab (Activate the Tab at Its Left), or the tab to the right of the currently active tab (Activate the Tab at Its Right).
Tool Windows
- Show Title for Single Tool Windows

Allows you to show or hide the title bar for single tool windows.
- Auto-Hide Slide-Out Window

Causes any open slide-out window to automatically close when you click outside of the window or shift the focus to another part of the application.
- Animate Slide-Out Windows
-
Causes slide-out windows to open with an animation.
- Window Transparency

Sets the degree of transparency for windows that have this option activated.
History
- Maximum Number of Items in Recent File Menus

Sets the maximum number of files that are listed in recent file menus.
- Maximum Number of Items in Recent Files Tab

Sets the maximum number of files that are listed in the Recent Files tab.
- Maximum Number of Items in the Recent Folders Menu
-
Sets the maximum number of files that are listed in the Recent Folder menus.
Miscellaneous Options
- Show Application in High DPI (Windows only)

If this option is activated and your display supports high resolution, WaveLab Pro is displayed in high resolution. Otherwise, this option is ignored.
NotePlug-in windows are not displayed in high resolution. If plug-in windows appear too small, deactivate Show Application in High DPI.
- Restrict Scaling to Multiples of 100

If this option is activated, only scaling factors that are multiples of 100 are supported. For example, if you use a scaling factor of 150%, in WaveLab Pro, the scaling that is applied is 200%.
If this option is deactivated, intermediate ratios such as 150% are possible.
- Use the System File Selector to Open Files

If this option is activated, the standard file selector is opened when you select Save As.
- Open Quick File Selector When Saving Files

If this option is activated and you save a file via the save shortcut, a dialog is opened instead of the File tab.
- Hide Unused Ribbon Tabs
-
If this option is activated, unused ribbon tabs are hidden.
- Undo/Redo Does Not Scroll/Zoom Audio

If this option is activated, the undo and redo functions for audio files and audio montages do not restore the snapshot that was active when the operation was performed.
- Show WaveLab Pro Logo on Startup

Determines whether the WaveLab Pro logo is displayed during initialization.
- Hide Top Level Windows When the Application Is Not Active (Windows only)

If this option is activated, all floating windows are automatically hidden when another application becomes active. If this option is deactivated, floating windows remain on top of other application windows.
- Show Options Bar for Mouse Actions

If this option is activated, in some contexts, the Context Options info bar displays key commands that are available to you at a particular stage in your workflow.
- Tooltip Delay

Allows you to select the delay after which tooltips appear when you move the mouse over user interface controls.
You can choose from the following options: 300 milliseconds, 500 milliseconds, 700 milliseconds, 1 sec, and 2 sec. If you prefer not to see any tooltips at all, you can select Never Show.
- Upon Launching the Application with a Specific File

Allows you to choose whether, on starting WaveLab by opening a specific file via drag and drop or the File Explorer/macOS Finder, all files that you most recently worked on are opened in conjunction with it or not.
Maximum Dynamic Vertical Zooming to View
Automatically scales the waveform so that it fills the entire vertical space of the window.
Edit Cursor
- Blink Rate

Allows you to set the edit cursor to the blinking frequency that you feel most comfortable with:

No Blink cancels the blinking, so that the edit cursor is displayed as a static red line.

Standard sets the blinking frequency to the default value.

Fast causes the edit cursor to blink at a faster rate, compared to the default value.

- Width

Allows you to customize the width of the edit cursor.
You can set it to Thin, Medium, or Thick.
- Focused
-
Allows you to customize the color of the edit cursor for when the editor view has the keyboard focus.
- Non-Focused
-
Allows you to customize the color of the edit cursor for when the editor view does not have the keyboard focus.
Playback Cursor
- Color

Allows you to customize the color of the playback cursor.
- Dim for Muted Channels
-
With this option activated, any parts of the playback cursor that intersect with muted audio channels are set to semi-transparent.
- Width
-
Allows you to customize the width of the playback cursor.
You can set it to Thin, Medium, or Thick.
- Show Trail
-
With this option activated, a transparent shadow is applied to the left of the playback cursor, which follows its motion.

Width allows you to set the width of the trail.
You can set it to Tiny, Small, Medium, or Wide.

Color allows you to set the trail to the same color as the playback cursor, to white, or to a shade of gray.

Intensity allows you to define the degree of visibility of the trail.
You can set it to Subtle, Mild, Soft, Moderate, or Pronounced.

The settings related to displaying the playback cursor can be set independently for the Dark and the Light user interface themes.
